Implementation studies of artificial insemination program of beef cattle in west java

Abstract :

Many concern from Government was done to increase production and population of Beef cattle in Indonesia, especially in West Java to achieve Nasional Target of self sufficiency of meat cattle. Data from Bureau of Animal Husbandry of West Java Province (2007), every month, mount of beef cattle which wascome from outside of West Java more than 30%. This condition was done in all regencies in West Java. One method which could been save the lower of cattle population are Artificial Insemination Program (AI).This program which could be increase the genetic potential, also increase of the beef cattle population in the short time. Thereby, the AI Program should be develop in West Java. Aim of this Research was to find outthe successful of the introduction of AI Technology in West Java Province with case study in Beef Cattle farming in West Java. From that result, the government could be take the policies which could be improvethat program. The result showed, that the performance reproduction of local beef cattle in West Java wasgood, although decreased of the average of Service per Conception (S/C) 1,66 (year 2003) and 2,09 (year2007) and Conception Rate (CR) 61,37 %. (2003) and 46,67 % (2007). Average number of acceptor was increase in year 2003 (17.819) to 38.124 acceptors (2007), number of pregnancy with AI program was9.084 cattles (2003); 17.791 cattles (2007) and parturition was 8.546 cattles (2003); 17.057 cattles (2007). Asa conclusion, the successful of AI program in many district in West Java Province was low, because the AI infrastructure was low
