Abstract :
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is an inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract, especially the small intestine and colon. The cause of IBD is included treatment with indomethacin, is one type of NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). Indomethacin stimulates the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) that required a free radical scavenger in the treatment of IBD. The aim of this study is to clarify the potential of leaf extracts Kedondong (Lannea coromandelica) as a source of antioxidants inreducing the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and the activity of protease ileum intestine rats that exposedby indomethacin. The male rats (Rattus norvegicus) were used as animal models. The rats divided into 2 groups: IBD rats that induced by Indomethacine dan IBD rats who received therapy kedondong leaf extract. The rats (IBD) induced by indomethacin dose of 15 mg/kg orally once and incubated for 14 days. Treated rat with aqueous leaf extract at a dose of 3 grams for 14 consecutive days. The results showed that there is a decrease in the levels of MDA and the activity of protease, respectively for 156.16% and 163.98%.
