Abstract :

IUD, injection and pills are the most common Family Planning (FP) method used in the working area of Marga II Public Health Center (PHC). But the occurrence of many side-effects (52.06%) and drop-out rate (3.70%) might lessen acceptors’ life quality as well as reduce cost effectiveness. This research aims to determine the most effective contraceptive method among IUD, injection and pills in the working area of Marga II PHC based on the length-of-use associated with acceptor’s life quality. This was a case study or field observation with 55 FP respondents. Observation and calculation was done to respondents from each method pertaining to total cost expended for obtaining FP service. To calculate the cost effectiveness of the contraceptive method, the Cost Effectiveness Ratio (CER) value from each method was counted by firstly: comparing the total cost of all three methods and the-length-of-use with the objective of all three methods; secondly: comparing the total cost with the value of the quality of life of all three methods. The result showed private practice midwives (>70%) and PHC (25%) were the main choice of obtaining FP service. The conclusion revealed the longer the method is utilized, the higher the quality of life is, for the-length-of-use < 1 month until < 3 months, pills were the most effective, but for the-length-of-use 3 month until 1 year, injections were the most effective. CER per normative objective showed the pills method was the most effective
