Abstract :

Maternal Mortality Rate in Indonesia is still very high even the highest among ASEAN nations. Bleeding and eclampsia are the cause of death. Both causes can be prevented with adequate antenatal care, thus, increased effort of obstetric help by health personnel becomes urgent to be performed immediately. Supporting evidence based is needed which can describe the need and demand of maternity help by health personnel. This study aims to compile efforts to increase maternal delivery services by health personnel based on need and demand analysis. The samples were 80 birthing mothers (who already gave birth) selected by simple random sampling technique. Data were analized quantitatively. Result of the study indicated that birthing mother characteristics were mostly low education, large family member, housewife and farmer, and low income. Need and demand on delivery help by health personnel have similar characteristic that was dominated by wanting to get labor assistance from traditional birth attendant (dukun). Factors that improve the need and demand to obtain obstetric services from helath personnel are education, income, and holding health insurance
