The effort to improve the public health center performance in surabaya based on malcolm baldrige criteria for performance excellence

Abstract :

ABSTRACT   Number Public Health Center  (PHC) of that have not reach  performance standard  in 2008–2010. The purpose of this research is to create an effort to improve the PHC performance based on Malcolm Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence. This research is descriptive study  with cross sectional design. The research used proportionate stratified random  sampling with samples of 11 PHC and 33 people as respondents. The conclusion from this research showed that the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence can be applied  in the PHC as one alternative to evaluate the quality of PHC. The acquisition of Malcolm  Baldrige in ISO PHC scores are better than the score of Non ISO PHC, but  it does not differ significantly.  To improve  the  PHC performance can  be  done by some opportunities which  are provided and initiated by The District Health Office in Surabaya  toward Non ISO PHC so that it can be develop as ISO PHC. Moreover,  PHC need to increase their score acquisition more than 80% of seven Malcolm Baldrige criteria which consist of leadership, strategic  planning,  customer focused, measurement, performance analysis  and  knowledge management, human  resource focused, process management and PHC result.   Keywords: public  health center, performance, malcolm baldrige  criteria for performance excellence
