Abstract :
History has recorded inequality between the rich and the poor, the powerful and the powerless since early human civilization. This study aims to discuss exploitation and the implications toward labors in Paolo Bacigalupi’s Ship Breaker. Marxist theory is considered the most appropriate because it discusses about the relation between upper and low class in society. Specifically, I examined how a capitalist system can ruin the labors’ life through exploitations in Ship Breaker. The method of study was close reading, consisting of data collection and data analysis. It is argued that exploitations toward the labors can be found through social differentiations and clashes and labor slavery. In addition, the implications of exploitations toward the labors include permanently sustained poverty, no accessibility to economy, moral hazards and powerlessness. Through base and superstructure, the capitalists use their ideology to make proletariat are controlled easier
