Abstract :

Platelets are produced in the bone marrow, from a large cell called megakaryocytes. During differentiation, megakaryocytes undergo a distinctive mode of cell cycling known as endomitosis, is characterized by abortion of mitosis in late anaphase and failure of cytokinesis. Endomitosis in megakaryocytes results a large multilobulated nucleus with polyploid in DNA content. Chromosomal passenger proteins and cell cycling regulator proteins influence this process.
