Abstract :
Background: Inguinal hernia surgery are the most common procedure done by surgeon.1 Etiology of lateral inguinal hernia in pediatric is delayed or unclosure of prosesus vaginalis peritonii.2 Incidence of incarcerated inguinal hernia is about 6% to 18%, the incidence higher on neonates and infant with range 31% to 40%.37 It is hard to predict of incarceration due to unknown cause of incarceration in children. Strangulation of internal ring frequently found during surgery.3,4,5 Small internal ring diameter is suspected as one of the cause of pediatric’s incarcerated hernia. The risk of post-operative complication in elective hernia surgery is 2 %, and in incarcerated hernia it is increased to 19 %. Objective : to compare internal ring diameter of reponible and incarcerated inguinal hernia in pediatrics. Methods : This is observational analytic study design. We had 20 patients as sample by consecutive sampling, 12 patients are incarcerated inguinal hernia, 8 patients are reponible inguinal hernia that are appropriate to inclusion and exclusion criteria. All data was analyzed by SPSS 20.0 with T-test analysis based on normal data distribution. Result : Mean of internal ring diameter of incarcerated inguinal hernia is 0.53 cm, and 0.89 cm for reponible inguinal hernia. It is statistically significant, internal ring diameter of incarcerated inguinal hernia is smaller than reponible inguinal hernia with p : 0.047. Conclusion : Internal ring diameter on lateral inguinal hernia could be one of etiology of incarceration in pediatric patient, with significant p<0.05.
