Abstract :

ABSTRACT In the process of train treatment, the environment of PT. Kereta Api Balai Yasa Surabaya Gubeng is extremely crowded by the sound. This study aims to know the effect of the crowded sound to the increase of blood pressure of the employees in the area. This study is an analytical using observation as data collection. This study is a case control study with the employees in the department of production and the administration as population, and 24 employees at each department (production and administration) as sample. The variable of the study is the level of noise, increase of the blood pressure, age and work periods using regression logistic test. The results indicate that the level of noise in the production department exceed the NAB at the level of 85 dBA (86–90 dBA) at all, while in the administration one the level of noise below NAB 85 dBA (63–69 dBA). The level of noise has effect in the increasing of blood pressure of the employees. Proved by first day (p = 0.000 < α = 0.05), second day (p = 0.002 < α = 0.05) and third day (p = 0.005 < α = 0.05). Recommendation to use the ear muff and obey all of the regulation are given for employee in production department, and administration should have a room separator.
