Abstract :

This study describes the reality of the border region of Indonesia, particularly the 3 villages in Nunukan, North Borneo and its potential to make an exodus to Malaysia. The potential exodus can not be separated from how the local community perceives the economic, security, political and social culture between Indonesia and Malaysia. Perception is important in order to map the gaps that could be improved governance in Indonesia, especially in the border areas in the future, considering that Indonesia has a long history of conflict related to the border with Malaysia. Moreover, some regions in North Borneo that are in the area of Outstanding Boundary Problems (OBP) also needs to get more attention from the government because it is vulnerable compromised by the interests of other countries. Therefore, the authors conducted interviews directly to the people who've meninggali 3 the village to obtain primary data more insightful and accurate. The author also uses the theory of land boundary, nationalism and push and pull theory as a foundation to process the data, draw conclusions and prove the hypothesis of the study.
