Abstract :

ABSTRACTThe prevalence of dental caries was never going down, yet it keeps increasing from time to time. Ironically, the policyof oral health care is not considered a priority as the approach is more of treatment rather than prevention. Someof many which raise the number of this prevalence are food intake, lesser awareness about how right to brush teeth,and insuffi ciency in understanding the meaning of oral health in childhood. Moreover, parents’ lacking of attention tochildren’s oral and dental health also intensifi es the occurrence if those remains into adulthood. This study was conductedto analyze the relationship between dental hygiene measures with dental caries experience in primary school students.Types of studies using case-control study design. The study was conducted on 62 respondents (31 respondents for thecase group and 31 respondents for the control group). The method used fi lling the questionnaire. Analysis using Chi-Square for analyzing relationships and risk factors. The results showed that there is a relationship between dental hygienemeasures with dental caries (p = 0.02; OR = 3.49). The conclusion is that low dental hygiene measures can be exposed tohigher risk of dental caries compared the actions of good dental hygiene. This study recommended for students, parents,teachers, educational institutions and health institutions in order to increase the knowledge of dental hygiene so that theincident does not become more severe caries.
