Abstract :

The increasing number of HIV and AIDS cases in Indonesia over the past few years have been very alarming especiallybecause the time of contracting occurs at an increasingly earlier age. This happens mainly because children and teenagershave started to have risk behaviours such as free sex and injecting drug use at earlier age. The boys bear to take risk, theyhave more opportunities to having partner sex more than women. The research aims to know the relationship betweenknowledge with the actions to prevent HIV transmission The research used cross sectional design by using quantitativeapproach. The population was all teenage boys in RW 6, 10, and 12 Dolly, Kelurahan Putat Jaya. The number ofrespondents was as many as 75 respondents. Samples were chosen using systematic random sampling. Variables studiedwere characteristics, knowledge, and the actions to prevent HIV transmission. The results showed that a number ofrespondents had good knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS (68%) and good actions to prevent HIV transmission (80%).Chi-square test with continuity correction Exact fi sher’s showed that there was no relation between knowledge and actionsto prevent HIV transmission (p = 0.762). Thus there is no relationship between knowledge with the actions to prevent HIVtransmission in boys at prostitution area of Dolly Surabaya. It is expected to teenagers to improve their life skills to beable to reject premarital intercourse and drugs.
