Abstract :
The water extract of Cassia siamea Lamk. leaf was evaluated for anti malarial activity in vivo, in 4-day suppressive assays against Plasmodium berghei in mice. An in vivo model to examine the antimalarial effect of plant extract is described. Selected mice (20-30 g body weight) were divided into 6 groups, each consist of 6 mice. Each animal was injected with Plasmodium berghei infected RBCs. The assay was done by Peter’s test, mice were treated orally with diluted extract in dose levels of 12.5 mg/kg bw, 25 mg/kg bw, 50 mg/kg bw, 100 mg/kg bw, 200 mg/kg bw for 5 groups. One group served as control. The negative control was treated with 0.5% CMC Na solution. The control positive was treated with a dose of 10, 5, 1, 0.5,0.1, 0.05 mg/kg kontrol positif digunakan klorokuin difosfst dengan dosis 10 mg/kg BB. body weight Chloroquine diphosphat solution. The concentration of water extract required for 50% suppression (ED50) of Plasmodium berghei in mice was 83.77412 mg/kg bw.
