Abstract :

Eye irritation is one of the problems experienced in big cities with high pollution levels, such as Surabaya. Housewives suspected as primary caregivers in the family are the benchmarks of community knowledge regarding the use and storage of topical multiple dose preparations for eyes. This study was to determine the level of knowledge of housewives in Karang Menjangan. This research was a descriptive research with non-random sampling method of accidental sampling type. Data was collected in Karang Menjangan by survey method using questionnaires. It was contain 10 multiple-choice questions that had been validated with face validity. The number of respondents in this survey was 110 with the most age group 41-50 years (n=33). The mean value of the score was 5,55 ± 1,7 and mode was 6. Respondents who got the lowest total score (0) and the highest (10) were 1 and 2 respondents respectively. Total score as a parameter to assess respondent’s knowledge level including low, medium, or high level. The result showed that majority of respondents had medium knowledge level (66,4%). Health promotion needs to be done to improve the knowledge on how to use and store topical multiple dose preparations.
