Abstract :

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of ampicilline, dextran-40, and dexamethasone as single or combination on prevention of intra-abdominal adhesion formation postoperative hysterotomy  in cat. This research uses 10 female cats, 12-18 months of age, followed randomly divided into five groups: (I) was control group, with no treatment; (II) 100 mg ampicilline in 3 ml aqua pro injection was applied intraperitoneally (IP); (III) ampicilline 100mg/ 3ml aqua pro injection + dextran-40, 20 ml/kg  bw were applied IP; (IV)  ampicilline 100mg/3ml aqua pro injection applied IP + dexamethasone 0,2 ml/ kg bw given intramuscularly (IM); (V) ampicilline 100mg/3ml aqua pro injection + dextran-40, 20 ml/ kgbw were applied IP + dexamethasone 0,2 ml/kg bw, given IM. After all cats were anesthetized, the cats treated laparo-hysterotomy surgery.  All cats underwent a second laparotomy on the postoperative 15th day for  evaluating a possible  intra-abdominal adhesion formation. The Kruskall-Walis test was used to test for differences in the grades of wide and tightnes intra-abdominal adhesion observed in the five groups. The result shows that  a significant difference among five treatment groups (p < 0,05).  The combined of ampicilline, dextran-40, and dexamethasone (P V)  is an effective way to prevent intra-abdominal adhesion.
