Abstract :
Pyometra is a common reproductive disease of intact bitch. Clinical signs of this disease include anorexia, vomiting, polydipsia and polyuria, lethargy, and vulvar discharge. The safest and most effective treatment of pyometra is surgical removal of the ovaries and infected uterus as known as ovariohysterectomy (OHE). Pyometra is a disease which the owner is likely to have noted and remembered. Aims of this study was to determine the classification of breed that connected to the risk of pyometra and the frequency of the case in bitch from surgical medical records at Jakarta Veterinary Hospital from 2013 – 2016. 100 cases of pyometra was found from total 472 surgical patients. This study concluded the highest case was on the large breed group. The result of the frequency of pyometra at Jakarta Veterinary Hospital from 2013 – 2016 showed the case of pyometra in bitch was 21.2% with the highest case at Jakarta Veterinary Hospital was in 2014 with total patients 30 bitches (26.8%). The results of this study can be used as a study for the prevention, control and knowledge to the dog owner to increase the awareness about the risk and danger of pyometra in bitches to take precautionary steps and minimalize the risk of pyometra.
