The pattern of canine pyometra occurence at veterinary teaching hospital of universitas airlangga in the period 2012 to 2014

Abstract :

The aim of this research was to find out the pattern of canine pyometra occurrence based on age and breed at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Universitas Airlangga in the period 2012 to 2014. The research was carried out using the survey method in the form of secondary data retrieval with the variables canine age, breed, and pyometra cases in each year. The obtained data were evaluating by the analysis crosstabs and descriptive. A total of 82 cases of canine pyometra was found from total 2507 bitches at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital over the study period. The results of the analysis showed that the pattern of canine pyometra occurrence at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Universitas Airlangga was 3.3%. There were variations in age and breed at presentation. The highest occurrence within the age range from under 5 years old was 1.2%  and the lowest incident within age in range above 11 years old amounting to 0.5%. The occurrence of breed variation, the highest canine pyometra occurrence in small breed category was 2.3%. While the lowest canine pyometra occurrence in giant breed category was 0%.
