Abstract :

The aimed of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship between attitude of assertiveness and tendency to become victims of dating violence in adolescent. Assertiveness are referred to in this study was described by Alberti dan Emmons (1995 in Stewart, 2002), while dating violence was explained by Wolfe, et al. (2001). The population in this research consist of high school adolescent which age range 15 to 18 years old with mean 16,62 years old, had or in relationship at least 3 months, and lives in Surabaya. Sample to be used in this undergraduate thesis consisted of  58 boys and 46 girls. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. As data collection  instruments  to be used for this  research  are questionnaires. Assertivenees scale developed by the author and the realibility is 0,859, while the tendency to become victims of dating violence was measured by Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory (CADRI;  Wolfe, et al., 2001) which already translated by Trifiani (2012) the realibility is 0,816.  The data is then analyzed using hierarchical regression with two predictors. The data is then analyzed using statistic non parametric method with correlation test technique of Spearman’s Rho. The Spearman’s Rho correlation test is done with the help of SPSS 16.0 for Windows. The result of this research shows that attitude of assertiveness is in correlation with tendency to become victims of dating violence in adolescent. The value of correlation coefficient (r) between those two variables is -0,237 with significance rating of 0,015. Therefore these facts made the hypothesis zero is rejected and alternative hypothesis can be accepted. These findings demonstrate that there is correlation between of assertiveness and tendency to become victims of dating violence in adolescent.
