Abstract :

The study was conducted in order to analyze; (1) local institutional role in the practice of climate change adaptation in fishermen’s community, (2) the function mechanism of the local institution, and (3) the impact of local institution in the adaptation practice of fishermen. The research is conducted in tuna fishing fishermen’s community in Asilulu, Ambon Maluku Island. Qualitative method is used in this research with historical case study. Primary data collection is conducted using participant observation, focus group discussion and in-depth interview and literature study to support data validity. Qualitative data analysis method is used in analyzing data. Research result shows that climate change is the new pressure on the livelihood system of fishermen at the research location. Adaptation is conducted at community level and facilitated by local institution, especially collector. Collector institution is the social support source to strengthening adaptation capacity in the practice of climate adaptation.
