Abstract :
Sasak people in the rural village of Loyok in East Lombok are rice farmers. They believedthat belian was able to treat diseases, so that belian had a very special position in the society.The purpose of this study was to analyze the forms of service by belian in maintaining thehealth of women during pregnancy, analyzed using post-positivism paradigm approach. Theresearch concluded that the Sasak people still believed in belian and magic. However, recentsociety was more likely to give the responsibility to midwives who are appointed by thegovernment, in the process of childbirth and prenatal care, because the confidence of thecommunity that midwife was more able to cope with pregnancy complications such aseclampsia. However, because the strong believe of the people in magic and spirits, belian wasstill holding a good position in the society to assist women in giving birth . Sasak publicbelieved that black magic may harm pregnant mothers. Then only belian could help to healthe mother and fetus from the interference caused by the spirits.
