Abstract :
This research was conducted to determine the social and cultural group “NineInner” concerning characteristics and profiles of life including the structure ofthe “Inner Nine” group's philosophy of life that lived in the jungle, in the provinceof Jambi, Sumatera. Inner Nine Group was a group of isolated tribe who lived in thejungle of Bukit Dua Belas Jambi Province, Sumatra. This was a qualitative research, using descriptive type of analysis. The data were collected by means ofobservation, interviews, archieval research, and literature study. Based on the socialanthropology model of Radcliffe-Brown and Malinowski it was assumed thatthe tribal cosmology was associated with the inner world tribe and the theiroutside world inhabited by post traditional people. The Inner Nine Group had beenliving traditionally from one generation to another. They provided almost all of thenecessities of life from the forest—such as tubers, fruits and prey animals. Althoughthe Bukit Dua Belas forest hill had been surrounded by post traditional communitiesbut the Inner Nine Group remained unwilling to blend in with the posttraditional society. The Inner Nine Group had their own customs, and they tend to havenomadic life style. Starting from 2006 many changes had happened in the vicinity of theInner Nine Group so that they became ecologically constricted.
