Abstract :

Surabaya is a city  which is supported by the environment with the several species of mosquitoes as disease vector could grown up. This study was conducted to find out the mosquito’s fauna and the population density of mosquito as an infectious disease vector that was found in Surabaya city. The research was done on March to April, June to July 2007(rainy season) and October to November 2007 (dry season). Four locations consisted of East Surabaya area  (kelurahan Nginden), West Surabaya area (kelurahan Petemon), North Surabaya area (kelurahan Tambakrejo) and South Surabaya area (kelurahan Gembili). Eight houses were chosen randomly in every location of this study. The CO2 traps were put in eight chosen houses. Mosquitoes which were trapped than were identified and the number are counted. Six replications were done in every location. The result of study showed that mosquitoes fauna in Surabaya city during 2007 were Culexquinquefasciatus,  Cx.tritaeniorhynchus,  Cx.pseudovishnui, Aedesaegypti,   Malaya spand Anopheles subpictus.The density of the trapped mosquitoes in Surabaya were Cx.quinquefasciatus 2292 (95.66%), Aeaegypti 97(4.05%), Cx.pseudovishnui 3 (0.13%), Cx.tritaeiorhynchus 2 (0.08%),  Ansubpictus 1 (0.04%) and Malaya sp1 (0.04%). Cx.quinquefasciatus and Aeaegyptiwere found in all locations of study. The occurrence of  Aeaegypti in Surabaya continuously found,  it means that it is  an hazardous condition  for transmission of dengue haemorrhagic fever and chikungunya, because the two diseases are endemic in Surabaya.   Key words: mosquito fauna, Surabaya city, disease vector
