Abstract :

The purpose of this research was to determine blood serum testosterone levels of Limousine crossbreed bulls in morning and evening, as an information to determine the best time of mating or semen collection for artificial insemination purposes. There were ten, two to three years old Limousin crossbreed bulls from which each 10 ml blood samples were collected through the jugular vein using disposible syringe. Blood sampling was performed twice, in the morning and evening. Blood serum was stored in a freezer with a temperature of -18oC until hormone assay performed. Hormone levels were analysed by ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) technique. Statistical t-test was used to compare the testosterone levels. The result test of blood serum testosterone levels (means±SD) of Limousine crossbreed bull in the morning had an average of 6.88 ± 3.3 ng/ml and in the evening had an average of 2.8 ± 0.77 ng/ml. Statistical analysis showed very significant higher testosterone level in the morning componed to those in the evening (p<0.05)
