Abstract :

Introduction: Depression is often occurs in elderly at UPT PSLU. Many factors can lead to depression including physical deterioration, loss of one loved, and loss of social role. Spirituality can reduce depression. Spirituality seek to maintain harmony or conformity with the outside world, striving to answer or get the power when it is facing a depression, stress, and illness. This research was aimed to explained the correlation between spirituality with depression in elderly. Method: This study used cross sectional design by taking the entire population in UPT PSLU Magetan which 30 people. The independent variable in this research was spirituality and the dependent variable is depression. The data were collected by questionnaires and analyzed using the Spearman Rho test with significant level of 0,05. Result and Analysis: The result showed that spirituality and depression in UPT PSLU Magetan had significant value ρ = 0,000 and correlation r = -0,872, indicates that the correlation between both variable is very strong. Discussion and Recommendation: Spirituality can help cope with an issue of depression in elderly. Mental and spiritual development activities are expected to increase spirituality in order to reduce depression in elderly. For example, UPT PSLU improve existing spiritual lecture or religious discourse for elderly to enhance the knowledge religion.
