Abstract :
The objective of this study was to determine whether milk replacer feeding would increase camel calf body growth. Previous observation has shown camel calf body measurement fed camel milk in Surabaya Zoo. Few of delivered camel calf fed milk replacer had not been observed in the past. One dromedary camel 2-month-old calf was used to determine the effect of milk replacer feeding on its body growth. The body growth was measured once in two weeks for feet length, head length, neck length, body length, head circumference, neck circumference, chest circumference, abdomen circumference and hump height, until the calf aged 5 months old. The milk replacer was analysed for protein concentration, lactose and fat using formol titration methode, lactose titration, and Gerber methode respectively. The milk replacer fat and protein concentration were lower than in camel milk in Surabaya Zoo. The Surabaya Zoo camel milk has lower lactose concentration than in milk replacer. The camel calf fed milk replacer had better growth rate than the camel calf fed camel milk inSurabaya Zoo. It was concluded that feeding camel calf by milk replacer affected body growth.
