Abstract :
According to the previous research on antifertility activity to spermatozoa of Justicia gendarussa Burm.f, it was found to be potentially developed as phytopharmacetical product for man antifertility. Hence, it must be followed by adverse drug reaction trials on Justicia gendarussa Burm.f usage. To know the adverse drug reaction which is arise because of Justicia gendarussa Burm f, it requires the emetic study. This study was done to recognize the safety level of Justicia gendarussa Burm f usage. The aim of this research was to observe the emetic effect of water fraction 0,9196 g/kgBW (1/17 LD50) dose and 1,3028 g/kgBW (1/12 LD50) dose; The free alkaloid 60% ethanol fraction on doses 0,23887 g/kgBW (1/75 LD50), 0,47773 g/kgBW (1/37 LD50), and 1.90194 g/kgBW (1/9 LD50); 1% solution of CuSO4 (100 mg/mL) as positive control; and negative control solution. These trial solutions were given to 7 groups of pigeon which contained 3 pigeon in each group. The pigeon’s body weight about 200-400 kg. Every group has been given the trial solution orally and then observed in glass box for 3 hours. The observations were done on emesis times and frecuentions. The results showed that the free-alkaloid 60% ethanol fraction 0,23887 g/kgBW and 0,47773 g/kgBW doses didn’t show emetic effect, while 1,90194 g/kgBW dose showed emetic effect with first emetic average time in 10th minute to pigeon. From the observation on the groups treated with the water fraction 0,9196 g/kgBW and 1,3028 g/kgBW doses showed emetic effect with first emetic average time at 75th and 122th minute respectively.
