Efforts to increase the exclusive breast feeding by lactating mothers trough social marketing

Abstract :
Kauman Public Health Center (PHC) is oe of PHCs in Tulungagung Regency. It has low breast feeding coverage (averaging 25.48%) at the working area of Kauman PHC. This research aims to formulate a social marketing program planning in order to increase community participation of Exclusive Breast Feeding Program (BFP) based on lactating mothers, environment and PHC factors. This is a descriptive observational research. The samples are 13 village midwives of Kauman PHC working area, 85 lactating mothers who are choosen by proportional random sampling method and three PHC personnel from Health Promotion, Nutrition and Mother & Child Health. The result showed that only 28.7% of lactating mothers gave exclusive breast feeding although their attention, interest, and desire on exclusive breast feeding social marketing showed good result. Social marketing recommendation based on program target is by giving the right technique for breast feeding through demonstrations and trainings. Husbands of lactating mother are targeted to have involvement in breast feeding support and encouragement, also mothers of the lactating moms are targeted to change their negtive value towards breast feeding.
