Abstract :

Due to the need of continuing medical care and patient's self-management education on diabetes, Diabetes Update is of great importance both for clinicians and patients. According to ADA 2004, diabetes is classified into Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, and other specific types of diabetes. Criteria for testing for diabetes in asymptomatic adult are also worth to be noted. In setting the glycemic goals certain key concepts should be considered, such as individualization of the goals and special considerations, which should be given to certain populations.  Items published in the Position Statement of ADA-2004 and the most recent strategies and goals for reno-and cardioprotection in diabetic nephropathy patients should be well recognized.
