Abstract :
Introduction: Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a tropical disease that endemic in Indonesia and tends to increase. The undergoing program during in dealing with this disease is not effective due to low self-efficacy of the society. Low self-efficacy lowers the commitment of society to prevent DHF. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of health coaching to family’s self-efficacy in conducting dengue haemorrhagic fever prevention. Method: This research was a quasi-experiment study using pre and post control group design. A total of 21 family from Puskesmas Pacar Keling, Surabya was included as respondents, divided into 11 for the treatment group and 10 for the control group. The sampling method used was purposive sampling based on the inclusion criteria. The dependent variable was self-efficacy and health coaching was the independent variable. Data were taken with questionnaire and analysed by Wilcoxon signed rank test and Mann Whitney U test with significance level 0.05. Result: Wilcoxon test results for the treatment group showed p=0.008, in control group revealed p=1.000, while the Mann Whitney test revealed p=0.003. Discussion: It can be concluded that health coaching is effective in improving family’s self-efficacy in the prevention of DHF. The changes made by altering family’s Health Inhibiting Thinking (HIT) into Health Enhancement Thinking (HET). The results of this study can be used as an alternative method of health promotion.
