Abstract :

This study aims to prove the antioxidant effects of roselle in preventing liver cell damage due to increased free radical formation in heavy metal poisoning of lead (Pb acetate). The research used 30 mice that were divided into 5 groups as follows: Negative control: the mice were given only the solvent of lead acetate and solvent of roselle extracts, positive control: the mice were given the lead dose of 20 mg / kg body weight and solvent of roselle extracts, Treatment 1, 2 and 3: the mice were given the roselle extracts each with a dose of 200 mg / kg body wight, 400 mg / kg body weight and 800 mg / kg body weight, and treatment of the mice was also given a dose of 20 mg / kg body weight of lead acetate. Roselle extracts given orally in advance for 7 days, then on the eighth day, the mice were also given a lead orally, one hour after the administration of the roselle extracts. The process of giving roselle extract and lead was conducted over 21 days. On 29th day, blood samples were taken to examine SGOT and SGPT level on the mice. The result showed that roselle extract inhibits the increase of SGOT and SGPT level in mice that were exposed to lead acetate.
