Urolithiasis in dogs in veterinary teaching hospital airlangga university, from 2010 to 2012

Abstract :
Urolithiasis is general term to referring to the causes and effects of stones anywhere in the urinary tract. Syndrome of urolithiasis is defined as the occurrence of familial, congenital or acquired pathophysiologic factor that, in combination, progressively increase the risk of precipittion of excretory metabolites in urine to form stones. Prevalence of urolithiasis in industrilized country significantly increase from 1985 to 2008 (Cannon et al., 2007; Picavet et al., 2007). The aim of this research was to know the prevalence of urolithiasis in dogs that examine in Veterinary Teaching Hospital Airlangga University (VTH-AU) from 2010 to 2012. Data was collected from veterinary medical record in Veterinary Teaching Hospital Airlangga University from 2010 to 2012. The results show that urolithiasis was tend to increased in dogs from patients that examine in VTH-AU from 2010 to 2012. There were 15 cases in 2010, 36 cases in 2011 and 25 cases in 2012. The mean age of affected animals was 5.6±3.59 years, significantly younger than Picavet research (7.3±3.0 years). The highest frequencies of dogs urolithiasis were 2, 4 and 7 years old. Male dog urolithiasis was 64.47% and female dog was 35.53%.
