Abstract :
Through this research, it has been done the use of activated bottom ash as an adsorbent of metal ion Cd2+. This study attempts to find out the capability of NaOH to activate the bottom ash, determine adsorption equalization model for the waste of activated bottom ash in adsorbing heavy metal Cd2+, determine the value of adsorption capacity for the waste of activated bottom ash in adsorbing heavy metal Cd2+. Analysis of adsorption type, adsorption kinetic and adsorption thermodinamic of metal ion Cd2+ were used for characterizing the adsorption of metal ion Cd2+ on an activated bottom ash. In order to upgrade the absorption capability of bottom ash, the bottom ash was activated using NaOH 3M. There was an improvement of absorption capability of activated bottom ash than it was before. It was 40,81% before an activation, and 72,47% after activation. Based on the result of adsorption process, it was found that optimal contact time and optimal concentrate of adsorption process metal ion Cd2+ on activated bottom ash were 160 minutes and 55 ppm. The adsorption type of metal ion Cd2+ by activated bottom ash is Freundlich isotherm adsorption. The appropriate kinetic was second reaction period with the k value is 4x10-4L.mg-1.min-1. The absorption process of metal ion Cd2+ on activated bottom has had endoterm reaction of which ∆Hads value was +12,5134 kJ.mol-1 and it was physic reaction for it had ∆Hads value which was less than 20,92 kJ.mol-1. The value of adsorption Gibbs energy (∆Gads) decreases, it shows that the reaction of metal ion Cd2+ adsorption happened spontaneously and the value of adsorption entropy energy is positive and it gets bigger as the increase of its temperature.
