Abstract :

Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) is one of species of China carp that first introduced to Indonesia at 1915 through Sumatera. Grass carp demand in Indonesia is continuous every month although not as high as other consumption fish, like catfish or gouramy. Grass carp can’t spawn naturally in Indonesia. Artificial spawning through induced breeding or induced spawning as we know needs a higher cost and exact handling. The purposes of this field work practice are to acquire knowledge, direct experience and know the problems that arise in the management of hatchery of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella). This Field Work Practice was held in Balai Perbenihan Budidaya Ikan Air Tawar Muntilan, Kecamatan Muntilan, Kabupaten Magelang in January 14th until February 14th 2013. Data collection was undertaken by active participation, observation, interview, and literature learning. Hatchery proceses are started from preparation of spawning pond, aquarium and larvae rearing pond, ripe bredeers selection with ratio 1 male : 2 female, breeding technic, eggs hatching and larvae rearing until harvest procces at 3 weeks larvae. Water source that used for the hatchery derived from Lamat River with water temperature between 24-33 oC and pH 7-9. The larvae which produced were 25.200. This fish hatchery gives profit because the R/C value 1,787 exhibited that the grass carp fish hatchery was proper to be continued because the R/C value was more than one. BEP of grass carp fish production reached 14.099 or the selling was Rp. 55,95/tail. The payback period value was 1,27 could be interpreted that the capital could return back after the attempt was already 1,27 years.
