Abstract :

Condom-buying among students in Pamekasan was a surprising case. The case didnot stop merely to the level of buying condoms, but it was also an early indication of a series offree sex behaviors among them. The research, which focused on two subjects as t he target ofanalysis, aimed at describing and analyzing condom -buying action done by the studentsemploying a qualitative approach by in -depth interviews. The data were then analyzed usingdomain, taxonomic, componential and cultural theme analyses. The f ollowing were the results.First, the factors leading to condom-buying action were subjects’ backgrounds, uncontrolledsocialization environment, lack of knowledge and understanding of contraceptives, lack ofparents’ control, and improper mass media expos ure. Second, condoms were used as a way toprevent unwanted pregnancy and protect sexual organs from transmitted sexual diseases. Third,subjects had sex voluntarily with their partners to prove their love, to show their heartbreaks, orto fulfill their sexual needs. Four, the consequences of condom -buying and sexual relationshipthey did were that they suffered from psychological pressures, such as feeling guilty and sinfulas well as moral burden especially among the students. Five, subjects chose to act indifferentlyto what people thought about them in order to live normally in the society.
