Abstract :
(Bundo Kanduang) equals even higher than the males. But in reality, the position ofMinangkabau women in parliament was very low compared to the men. The purpose of thispaper was to examine what factors were inhibiting them to get a political position, focusedon the external and internal barriers that the women were confronted with thus far. Theapproach used here was the Verstehen (understanding from the point of the researchsubjects) and interpretive hermeneutics (interpretation of the cultural symbols). This researchwas focused on understanding the phenomenon in a rational way (common sense) by basingthe information on a variety of sources. The results demonstrated that the barriers faced bywomen were so complex and there was no causal relationship between equality and the votesin the general election because the rules indicate that the nomination of men and women wasequal.
