Abstract :

AbstrakPenelitian  ini  bertujuan  untuk  mengetahui  norma  maskulinitas  ideal  atau  dominan  yang  bisa ditemukan  dalam  dunia  siber  (cyberspace),  yaitu  Twitter.  Penelitian  ini  mengkaji  bentuk-bentuk maskulinitas yang mengemuka dalam dunia siber. Dengan menggunakan metode critical discourse analysis oleh Fairclough, penelitian ini dipusatkan pada teks yang dituliskan pada tweet beberapa akun, yaitu @Fadjroel, @TrioMacan2000, dan @PartaiSocMed. Akun-akun tersebut diambil sebagai objek penelitian karena tergolong cyberactivist dan opinion leader. Dengan menitikberatkan pada isu mengenai  pilpres  yang  merupakan  salah  satu  isu  paling  hangat  di  Indonesia  dalam  bulan-bulan terakhir  ketika  artikel  ini  ditulis,  ada  beberapa  temuan  yang  patut  dicermati.  Hasil  penelitian  ini menunjukkan bahwa varian maskulinitas yang menonjol dalam diskusi, unggahan, dan komentar di  kedua  media  sosial  tersebut  masih  berkaitan  dengan  norma  maskulinitas  yang  menahan  diri(restrained), bukan maskulinitas yang asertif. Dengan demikian, media sosial yang berkembang seiring dengan perkembangan teknologi internet cenderung mengafirmasi norma maskulinitas yang berkaitan dengan keinginan menahan diri yang memang sudah ditemukan pada media lain yang berpengaruh terhadap anak muda dalam mempromosikan nilai-nilai ideal, misalnya pada buku fiksi dan nonfiksi. Selain itu, media sosial memiliki peranan besar dalam mempromosikan norma maskulinitas yang egaliter dan parsipatoris karena sifat media yang juga egaliter dan partisipatoris.Kata kunci: anak muda, cyberspace, jender, kampanye presiden, maskulinitasAbstractThis study examines dominant masculine norms in one of popular cyber social media, namely Twitter. Using Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis as the method, the research observed the views, responses, opinions, tweets, and status updates made by cyberactivist and opinion leader accounts which were the objects of this study, namely @Fadjorel, @TrioMacan2000, and @PartaiSocMed, so that their implicit and explicit perceptions of masculine norms can be identified. By focusing on the issue of the 2014 presidential campaign, the hottest political issue of the year, the study reveals two important findings. The first research finding relates to the dominant norm of masculinity among the social media users. This dominant masculine norm reflects the norms associated with restrained masculinity. This is manifested in the figure of the elected Indonesian president, Jokowi, who was supported significantly by the accounts under scrutiny. The finding supports and affirms the results of the previous research which investigated norms of masculinity represented in Indonesian literature for young adults. The second argument of the research asserts the influential role of the cyber media, which is characterized by egalitarian and participatory nature, in promoting egalitarian and participatory masculine norms as well.Keywords: cyber media, gender, masculinities, presidential campaign, young adults
