Abstract :
Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that often become chronic and very troublesome . High recurrence rate , poor prognosis , and long time even lifetime treatment not only have consequences on quality of life of people with schizophrenia , but also to caregiver. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship a long illness and hospitalization frequency to caregiver quality of life of patients with schizophrenia who were treated in psychiatric ward Dr.Soetomo hospital in Surabaya. Methods : This study is cross-sectional. Caregivers of patients with schizophrenia asked to fill WHOQOL - BREF . Analysis of this study using SPSS - 12 to determine the value of quality of life , and correlational statistical analysis methods . Results : No significant correlation between long illness of schizophrenia’s patients with caregiver’s quality of life , whereas the frequency of hospitalization among schizophrenic patients with caregiver’s quality of life is a significant negative correlation , which means more frequent relapse of schizophrenia patients ( characterized by hospitalization frequency), the caregiver’s quality of life getting worse .
