Abstract :

It is inevitable that one of the implications of the ever-expanding globalization phenomenon that swept almost all regions of the world led to growing integration sectors and components of community life in various parts of the world. This fact raises the urgency involved mastery of the means of communication within the community that can help global connectedness. One of the means of communication of the most important role in this process is related to foreign language mastery. This study aimed to see how big the need for mastery of foreign languages among one of the elements of society, namely academia (students) associated with the field of science and how big it is considered as one important part in dealing with the phenomenon of globalization. This study is generally done where the population is located, namely Paramadina University. Thus, distributing questionnaires or interviews to the students performed at the Paramadina University. Through this research, it can be concluded that the mastery of foreign languages is needed, especially in efforts to support the learning process according to scientific discipline. In this case, not only the mastery of English is required, but the mastery of foreign languages other than English, are also urgently needed by students, especially in efforts to support the promotion of knowledge and expertise. This research also concluded that foreign language teaching at the Paramadina University still not optimal. Therefore, the optimization of teaching facilities in addition to the formal curriculum of foreign language teaching, is needed.
