Abstract :
This study examined the phenomenon behind the increased rate of educated unemployed universitygraduates and attempted to formulate appropriate treatment programs to reduce the educated unemployeduniversity graduates rate in the society. The study was conducted in Surabaya and Sidoarjo. One hundrededucated unemployed university graduates participated in this study. The study found that many universitygraduates, in general, were not able to demonstrate independence in creating jobs and business for themselves.Being graduated from high-ranking universities and having GPA above three did not necessarily mean that theycould obtain a desired job. Many university graduates did not have a good command of English, making themlack of competence required by the job market. In addition, most university graduates also had no connectionthat could be used to find a job, and limited access to capital resources. Therefore, in the middle of increasingcompetition in searching for a job, it could be understood that some of them were eventually unemployed, eitherfor a period of less than one year or more than one year.
