Abstract :

  ABSTRACT Construction is an activity with a high level of risk that can lead to accidents and one of the causes is unsafe behaviour. One method used to reduce the occurrence of workplace accidents is by implementing a safety culture. Safety culture can be formed by several factors. This study aims to determine the relationship between those factors and the safety behavior. It was descriptive observational research with cross sectional approach. In this study population was 73 respondents, and data collected by using questionnaire. Independent variables were management commitment, regulations and safety procedures, communication, employee involvement in workplace safety, competencies, and social environment. The dependent variable was safety behavior. The result showed that the factors of safety culture with a weak correlation to the safety behavior were management commitment, rules and procedures, and employee involvement in the occupational health and safety. Factors of safety culture with strong correlation to the safety behavior were communication (c = 0,414) and social environment (c = 0,477). It’s recommended for company to optimize the safety culture of communication and social environment also to conducts safety induction and safety talk.   Keywords: safety behavior, safety culture
