Abstract :
Exposure to dust and fumes containing lead (Pb) compound is a frequent concern of medical personel who evaluates community in variety of occupational and environmental settings. Usually exposure is from inhalation of lead oxide dusts on fumes. An understanding of hematologic aspects of lead poisoning is important, because the erythrocytic cells of bone marrow and peripheral blood reprsent a major target for lead toxicity. The most commonly used test is direct measurement of blood lead (PbB) concentration, routinely performed in clinical laboratories by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Prevention of occupationally induced hematologic disorders can be accomplished through medical and environmental control programs.
