Abstract :
Syrinx is the organ that produces vocalization in bird which consists of labia, membrane and cartilage. With the aim of accessing and describing morphological anatomy of vocal tract, this study presents the finding of a comparative analysis of the syrinx of 18 specimens belonging to 9 male and 9 female of chickens resp. The specimens were stored in 10 % formalin for 14 days. The size of the vocal tract (i.e tymphanum cartilage, tracheosyringealis and right and left bronchosyringealis cartilage) were measured. The length of widest point of antero-posterior and latero-laterale of each cartilages tested for sexual-size differences with ANOVA. This result indicated that the male’s magnitude in syringeal length is larger than the female (p<0,05) neither between of antero-posterior tymphanum (7,22±0,5 vs 6,2 ± 0,63 mm);, tracheosyringealis (6,87±0,35 vs 5,9±0,62 mm) nor right bronchosyringealis cartilage (5,07±0,38 vs 4,42±0,6 mm). Otherwise in left bronchosyringealis cartilage of the female larger than the male (5,09 ± 0,45 mm vs 4,24 ± 0,62 ). The latero-lateral size neither of tymphanum (2,40 ± 0,5 vs 2,,40 ± 0,45 mm); tracheosyringealis (2,01 ± 0,37 vs 1,95 ± 0,53 mm ) nor right bronchosyringealis (2,84 ± 0,35 vs 2,5±0,38 mm) cartilage was similar between sexes (p>0.05) but it was detected with the left bronchosyringealis cartilage of male bird being slightly wider than female. (3,02 ± 0,37 vs 2,46 ± 0,43 mm)
