Abstract :

Abstract A typical wedding was the background of this research, Such as a wedding in Kelurahan Lumpur. There was a unique from of marriage procession, which was called “Kemanten Jadur”. The purpose of this research was (1) to examine the meaning of which was in Kemanten Jadur, (2) in keeping with the tradition that didn’t not go away by the process of modernization. (3) The research was as the introduction of the wedding tradition in Gresik Regency, one of them in the village of Lumpur. This research used ethnographic methods, with descriptive-qualitative analysis, for it was done observation deep collection and in-depth-interview techniques. This research concluded that (1) the Kemanten Jadur procession have meaning of the ones with the household in order to be a happy bride in the world, (2) The groom was expected to always be based on the teachings of the Islamic religion in accordance with what was at the time of the procession sungkem, arak-arakan, and temu manten, (3) Sungkem meaning tawadu’ against parents, (4) Arak-arakan was a lesson the groom about the labyrinth journey faced as head of the family, (5) Temu manten had the meaning of happiness, preparedness, and recognition of the parents of the bridge, the citizens of the community, and the family, who attended the wedding procession.
