Abstract :
The concept of community-based management in domestic wastewater treatment prioritizes physical development without regard to the readiness of human resources at the local level in building facilities to be more sustainable. This study aims to determine the status of the sustainability of community-based wastewater management systems in Antananarivo and formulate the strategies needed to maintain the system sustainability. This research is a qualitative descriptive one with a case study approach conducted in Itaosy and Antananarivo villages where 120 respondents were taken into consideration. The sustainability status of the communal wastewater management system in Antananarivo is in medium category with a score of 2.20. This condition is supported by the selection of the right technology both in terms of depth and ease of operation and maintenance. The financing mechanism for operations and maintenance, community involvement in development is carried out through cash and material contributiobns, while the community involvement in the operational phase regarding the willingness to pay amounting Ariary 500/month for Itaosy and Ariary 800/month for Antananarivo.
