Abstract :
This paper aims to explain Turkey's interest in intervening the Syrian conflict through its support of the Syrian opposition group in 2012. This study is based on the change of Turkish policy towards Syria, that originally Turkey had a good relationship with Syria. But when the Arab Spring hit Syria, which it has caused a conflict in Syria in 2011, has brought a change in the dynamics of relations between Turkey and Syria, which Turkey had asking for President Bashar al-Assad to start political reform to dampen the conflict, and impose sanctions through restrictions on Turkish airspace for aircraft which carrying military equipments heading to Syria. The sanctions imposed on Syria will continue to be implemented until the new legitimate government comes to power in Syria. But Assad's regime remains in power so that civil war continues. Finaly in 2012, Turkish declared its support for the Syrian opposition group. This is related to Turkey's economic interests in the Syrian region. Because the conflict in Syria makes Turkey suffer economic losses in trade and investment activities. In addition, Turkey has a political interest in its status that wants to be recognized as a wise country in the Middle East, so that at the time of the conflict in Syria, Turkey has a responsibility to resolve the conflict.
