Abstract :

The purpose of ths resarch is to detetct hepatitis B virus (HBV) invection by using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tecnology (to determine HBV-DNA) among thallasemia patients, as a high risk population infected with HBV. By detection of HbsAg and HBV-DNA it will known the prevalence of HBV infection among thallasemia patients, and based on that data, prevention and management could be improved. This research is a cross section study. Two of 50 (4%) sera smpelfrom thallasemia patients were positive for HbsAg, and one there two sera (2%) was positive for HBV-DNA. Ths result was smallercompared with the previous research, might be the sample size is smaller and The Red Cross Blood Transfusion Centre have done the HbsAg screening test among blood donors, Screening by using PCR technology was proposed to detectviremia among blood donors.
