Identification of morphology and protein profile of sarcoptes scabiei mites on goat and rabbit

Abstract :

ABSTRACT The aims of this research were to identify morphology and protein profile of Sarcoptes scabiei adult mites which were isolated from goat and rabbit. The mites were isolated by skin scraping from goat and rabbit showed clinical signs such as scratching, itching, of the skin accompanied by an exudate which coagulates and form crusts on the surface. The mites were identified based on morphology and protein profit by SDS-PAGE electrophoresis. The result showed that diameter of S scabiei var. caprae adult female around 494. 83 µm x 409.76 µm and diametre of adult male around 219.46 µm x 170.84 µm. The diameter of S scabiei var. cuniculi adult female around 465.31 µm x 357.66 µm and diameter of adult male around 283.75 µm x 196.44 µm. Based on statistical analysis showed that no significantly difference (p>0.05) of diameter of goat and rabbit mites. The characterization by SDS-PAGE showed that Sarcoptes scabiei var.caprae has 12 protein bands were 205,8 kDa, 187,4 kDa, 125,9 kDa, 96,6 kDa, 78,3 kDa, 57,3 kDa, 48,9 kDa, 43,0 kDa, 40,0 kDa, 34,3 kDa, 27,6 kDa den 26,1 kDa respectively and 4 dominan bands (205,8 kW, 57,3 kDa, 48,9 kDa and 40 kDa). Sarcoptes scabiei var.cuniculi has 9 protein bands were 75,3 kDa, 61,9 kDa, 50,9 kDa, 44 kDa, 41,5 kDa, 39,4 kDa, 37,4 kDa, 35,1 kDa and 24,9 kDa with 5 dominan bands (75,3 kDa, 61,9 kDa, 50,9 kDa, 44 kDa and 24,9 kDa)
