Abstract :
An investigation on the successive change of the decomposer organism during the decomposition of mangrove’s litter has been conducted at the mangrove’s forest of northern coastal of Surabaya. The decomposer organism mainly of invertebrate fauna was collected using litter bags made of nylon mesh with 2 mm pores. Nylon bags was filled with 25 g Rhizophora leaves and put on the forest’s floor in three different zones, each with 36 bags. On the different age of the litter exposure in the mangrove forest, three bags recollected from each zone. The entire decomposer fauna that has been found was analyzed to know the diversity, domination, and successive change pattern of the decomposer fauna in the litter decomposition process. The result of our investigation showed that there were 58 species of the decomposer fauna have been associated with litter decomposition process, including insects (4 species), crustaceans (12 species), molluscs (16 species), polychaetes (25 species), and myriapods (1 species). The species number, abundance, and diversity of the decomposer fauna increase since at the first week and these picks were occurred between the third and seventh week after litter exposure. The amphipods species were dominant species in the early and the end weeks of this investigation. Insects have been dominated from the second until fourth week, polychaetes have been highest abundance from the fourth until seventh week and gastropods have been moderately abundance through of the investigation. These data suggest that, the composition, diversity, and species domination of the decomposer fauna have been changed successively during the litter decomposition process.
