Abstract :
This research was motivated by the phenomenon of the number of movie adaptedfrom the novel and movie that ultimately in novel. The research focuses on therelationship between the two variables contained in the behavior of watching amovie and ask to read the novel. Relationship between two variables between thebehavior of watching a movie and ask to read a novel searched each with factorssuch as the frequency of watching and reading frequency, type of movie and nove ltype of interest, motivation watch and read the novel, as well as the activities ofthe respondents who do after watching and after reading novels. Motivat ionalapproach uses and gratification which there discusses the cognitive motif ingratifikas media relations. Motif cognitive stresses the need for information.cogni t ive mo t if in conjunc t ion wit h med ia grativication there is a "theory ofstimulation" that sees humans as beings who always find experience-newexperience looking for something to enrich their knowledge. (Rakhmat, 2005:212). This theory can be determined based on the desire of a person, when aperson watching a movie he would be curious to find out informat ion fromdifferent media which certainly feels more complete or provide informat ion to thepublic is done.Surabaya fans of the movie and novel adaptation, research on 75respondents with a wide range of ages. Selection of respondents with the provisothat the respondents had watched the film adaptation as well as novel adaptation.
