Abstract :
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of aerobic exercise and administration of mangosteen skin stew to adiponectin levels on rats. The method used in this study was the separate pretest posttest control group experimental design. The study was conducted in the Laboratory of Biochemistry Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University Surabaya. Subjects were 32 white male rats approximately 3 months old weighing 200 ± 10 grams. Research subjects given treatment in the form of aerobic exercise and administration of mangosteen skin stew for 1 week. Before providing treatments, body weight, weight training, and maximal swimming ability were measured. The results showed that aerobic exercise did not have a significant impact on levels of adiponectin (14.462 ± 2.185 vs 13.695 ± 1.658, p = 0.429), administration of mangosteen skin stew did not have a significant impact on an increase in adiponectin levels (15.247 ± 0.847 vs 13.695 ± 1.658, p = 0.118), also combination of aerobic exercise and mangosteen skin stew did not have a significant impact on an increase in adiponectin levels (12.662 ± 1.603 vs 13.695 ± 1.658, p = 0.289). The conclusion of this study is that aerobic exercise and administration of mangosteen skin stew for 1 week did not have a significant impact on levels of adiponectin. Adiponectin level not significantly increased is likely due to less length treatment.
